Weekend Retreat

HWSG Weekend Retreat in Marysville

The Guild is a community that meets and shares its friendship and knowledge. A weekend retreat was held for many years by the Guild which brought together country and city members. The last weekend retreat was in 2019 in the beautiful town of Harrietville. In 2026 we will travel to Marysville.

Set in the beautiful bush setting of El Kanah, we invite you to connect with like minded people while enjoying time crafting and celebrating our theme, Emblems of Victoria. Several activities will use the theme as a focus for colour and design. For those looking for something new, there will be a range of guided fibre related activities to explore across the weekend. Or, if you simply want a relaxed environment to focus on existing projects, there are plenty of spaces inside and out, to sit and craft.

The weekend will start on Friday 26th March when at 2pm we can start gathering at El Kanah in Marysville. A meal at 6.30pm will be our first formal chance to meet the other participants.

With activities on Saturday and others that continue over the whole weekend, there will be plenty to do and see and learn. For example, we have stick spinning, plying, spinning thick yarns, build a loom and double knitting and scribble knitting. We’ll also have weekend long activities: a Mystery choose your own challenge scarflet, a community weaving project and our renowned fibre sandwich.

After dinner is the very traditional Show and Tell.

Finally, on Sunday we’ll continue the relaxed pace finishing with lunch and departure by 2.30pm.

The Guild Craft Supply will also be there for the weekend.

The Guild's aim is to bring together those who practise handweaving, spinning and allied crafts. To help and encourage them to increase their knowledge, understanding and skills by discussion, demonstration, exhibition, teaching and the provision of quality resource materials.

In the spirit of reconciliation the Handweavers and Spinners Guild of Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today.
