Fleece selection day- breeds available to spin in Australia

Theory/Technical spinning- measuring and recording for consistency and documenting so yarns can be reproduced.

Theory – Wheels, ratios and twist

Worsted spinning technique – Merino/Corriedale/English Leicester

Alpaca day- notes taken during the session- Catie’s journal

Cotton spinning using ginned cotton, with notes recording technical details and observations by Jenny

Cotton spinning using sliver preparation

Silk Spinning using a variety of silk preparations including Mulberry silk and silk hankies

Flax spinning using a spinning wheel and distaff. Tow flax and line flax skeins

Plying techniques- different coloured singles combine with a range of plying techniques to create unique yarns by Prue

Plying techniques- Building yarns with varied twist directions and multiple singles produce a variety of decorative and strong, reliable yarns by Leanne

Felting and Botanical dyeing- making a piece of wool felt, and using eucalypts to ‘eco print’ for pattern and colour

Making a piece of wool felt to observe shrinkage and adding fibres to compare how differently they react to the felting process.

Dye day- dyeing with natural dyes- cochineal, indigo and Osage orange. Adding post mordants and overdying to get a range of colours

Colour theory- building a colour wheel by blending colours, and using an inspiration photo to create a unique yarn

Creative yarns. Using the knowledge the students have gained of theory and technique- they have created some beautiful decorative yarns

Spinning painted braids- preparing the braid in different ways to create various effects

Spinning painted braids-knitted samples show the variety achieved by choosing different preparation and spinning methods
