Sheep Breed Study Group

The sheep breed study group explores the history and traits of different wools.

Sheep Breed Study Group

Each month we look at a specific sheep breed, discussing its origins and the properties and uses of its wool before spinning a sample from fleece or top. We will look at sheep breeds from across the globe, focusing on Australian breeds. The group is available to Guild members, led by Elena Caffrey, and meets on the third Saturday of the month from 1:30-4pm following the guild’s monthly members' meeting. In additional to the standard $5 interest group fee, there is a materials cost of $5.

The Guild's aim is to bring together those who practise handweaving, spinning and allied crafts. To help and encourage them to increase their knowledge, understanding and skills by discussion, demonstration, exhibition, teaching and the provision of quality resource materials.

In the spirit of reconciliation the Handweavers and Spinners Guild of Victoria acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay respect to their elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people today.
